What a World Wind it has Been !

First, I must tell you about what Mom has been telling me - I have reached my Terrible Two's ?  It seems a little early for that but I must admit I have been a little ornery lately.  I have kind of found my legs and am learning what is what out there in this big world.  Mom said I am also not concentrating on "Hurry Up" like I should and have had a few Hurry Ups in the house which I have come to learn Mom does NOT like!

My two legged friend - Miss M - has been coming over a lot and I have been teaching her my commands.  I am doing such a good job that every time we practice one she gives me a treat.   I have to keep this up.  Miss M went with Mom and me to the Vet again.  She held me while the Vet gave me some more shots then she showed the Vet some of the commands.  More treats !  I am glad to report there was no icky poo this time.  Miss M had to get several teeth pulled - just to let you know a few of my teeth have fallen out - and I missed her for a few days.  She was a trooper though and stopped at the house to see me.

I have another great two legged friend.  Miss C.  She likes to learn commands too and I have trained her just like Miss M to give me a treat every time we practice one.  Miss C and I worked on a new command - Go Under.  That was a FUN one and even Miss C's daddy liked practicing with us.  Miss C must be training to be a beautician.  She practiced on me.  Combed my hair, prettied up my nails, freshened up my ears and I sure like to get my ears freshened and then brushed my teeth.  I really like having these big two legged friends.

Avalon as a puppy and Ruthie
Last week on our weekend walk we planted some flowers under a bird house out on the dike by the river in memory of Ruthie - Mom's trained therapy puppy and their family puppy who passed away in November.  I never got to meet her but have seem pictures and Mom tells me I have some BIG paws to fill.  Avalon tells me she was a great sister and taught her a lot when she was a puppy in training.   Mom said she use to take Ruthie along with my sister Avalon out and do presentations of puppy Raising and Guide/Service Dogs and when I get old enough and get my training vest we will get to go out and do the same thing.   I heard Mom say my sister Wheels and another KSDS Inc. puppy named Milo might come along.

I have heard Mom and Dad talk about a thing called a boat.  It is kind of like a car but it runs on the water.  They finally brought it home and put it in the lake.  They promised me a ride but so far they have not kept that promise.   However, when they were giving the boat a bath they let me play in the hose spray.  It was really hot that day and to stay cool we all played in the spray.  I still have not gotten to play in the big bath tub they call a lake - I have to get all of my shots first.  I was told I have web feet so learning to swim will be easy.  Avalon already knows how to swim.

My really big adventure was yesterday.  Mom and me along with another much bigger KSDS Inc. puppy - Milo and her mom went to KSDS Inc. for graduation.  It was a long drive and I had to stay in my kennel.  Milo got to just stay in the back and I thought that was not fair but I didn't say anything. I don't think Debbie understands puppy talk either.  Milo does and while we were driving to KSDS he told me stories about his training.  When we got there I went for a quick Hurry Up then we went inside and meet sooooo many two legged people and a lot of four legged ones.   I even got to see my four legged Mom - Bailey.  I tried to see if she would still give me a drink of milk but that was not the case.   After graduation and pictures there was lunch for all of the two legged people. I think I was the only four legged puppy that got to go outside and have lunch.  I still eat breakfast, lunch and dinner but I think soon I will just get to have breakfast and dinner.  Not looking forward to that.  Hope the treats still keep coming.  After everyone got to visit - Mom and Debbie loaded us all back up and drove back home.  I tried to nap in the car some but Milo was sooo exited he keep talking and kept me awake.  I took a long nap when we got home.

Last, I thought I would share Miss C's video.   We were working on the new command - Down Under. However, I tried to load it but can't get it to play so I am sharing these two other pictures.

Happy Father's Day to our two legged Daddy !!

It is a WONDERFUL life here in NEBRASKA in the USA !

Expanding my World !

It has been an interesting week ! After my Mom finally went live with my blog all she does is watch me to see what I can blog about. No privacy anymore.  Avalon doesn't have to sit and smile all the time anymore and she is so happy about that.

I was so excited last week I got to go for my first weekend walk around the lake.  Mom told me I have been practicing enough running around doing the silly run that I probably had built up my endurance to make it around the lake.  Mom and Dad always read the Sunday paper before the walk so I did a few more silly runs practicing but I think that was a mistake.  Dad had to carry me some and we had a few rest stops along the way but we did make it back home which from what I hear Mom and Dad talk about almost did not happen.  While we were taking a short rest I saw this BIG bathtub - I think they call it the lake - and took off running and almost made it before Dad grabbed me.  Mom said I need something called swimming lessons before I can go in it and I am not old enough yet.

Mom was not too happy with me last week.  I found out that chewing on the door jams instead of my toys was not the right thing to do.  I can tell you I will not do that again - I hope - because when Mom saw me and very loudly said "NO" I jumped back and stopped on the dime.  I tried to tell her I was sorry but since she can not understand puppy talk I could only look at her with my sad eyes.   Avalon told me she chewed up the corner of a few rugs and Mom did the same thing.

Mom said I need to start learning about something called a gentle lead.  I am NOT happy about it and I put on the breaks and just look at Mom.  Avalon wears ones and she doesn't like it either.  I am hoping if I put on the brakes long enough Mom will understand I don't like it and will stop putting it on me.  We even walked with it on but Mom finally got frustrated with my braking that she took it off, however I don't think that will be the end of that.  Mom is always thinking of me on our walks and brings treats for me.

I have something to tell you that I am so excited about.  Mom told me it would be coming and it did.  My SCIENCE DIET package with my Science Diet puppy food.  When I left the KSDS Inc. nursery I was worried about what I would be eating so the nursery staff told me they would make sure I received a package every month.  Science Diet provides the food for everyone at KSDS Inc., puppy raisers and the new forever family we go to after graduation.

I got to meet some kids like me this week except they only have two legs.  I had so much FUN with them.  I taught them about sit/stay, down, wait and even how to go up and down the stairs.  The most fun was to shake.  I knew they had lots of treats so I kept
teaching how to do these things Mom calls commands.  I think there are a lot more to work on since I saw Mom filling out her first report card on me and sending it to KSDS Inc.  I am glad though that the girl in pink - I like pink too - is going to come back so I can teach more commands.

Mom had to go to her Vet and get some shots in her mouth.  I only had to get my shots in my leg so that must have really hurt.  Mom was so loving to me when I had to go to the Vet and get shots that I stayed close to her side and let her rub me.  I hope she doesn't get the icky poo like I did.  Mom gave me my flea/tick meds this week along with my heart bug meds then she told me I have to go back to the Vet next week and get some more shots.  Mom rearranged my bedroom kennel after my meds and everyone is hoping that the icky poos don't come back and everything will be clean in the morning. I kind of like the new arrangement.

Mom is telling me I need to get off the computer.  It is Sunday morning and I think they are done reading the paper and want to go for our weekend walk. I LOVE our walks.  There is this place with a fence that Dad lets us run around in so I don't have to have this string thing attach to me. Dad always has treats in his pocket and if I shake paws with him I always get a treat.  It is so easy and a lot of FUN to train two legged people.  I wonder if that is one of the jobs they teach at KSDS Inc. college ?

All I can say is I LOVE it here in my foster home and the GREAT state of NEBRASKA in the USA !

Hello World - I am Key !

Hello - My name is Key and I am a KSDS puppy being raised by my foster Mom and Dad - Lynn and Don Schense.   They live in Papillion  Nebraska on a lake.  I have a four legged sister at my new home - Avalon who is a KSDS career change puppy who became my foster parents forever puppy after she could not overcome her car sickness.  There is a cat named Baby but I really don't see much of her.  She is an older kitty and spends most of her time downstairs away from me since I like to pounce on her.  My Mom and I have been working on this Blog site since I came home about three weeks ago along with Mom teaching me to read and write so I will try my first paw at writing and catching you up :)

Meeting my Mom - I am bottom left
I was born in Washington Kansas on March 3, 2016.  There were six of us in the litter.  I think there were two girls and four boys but that seems so long ago I can't really remember.  Three weeks in a puppy's life is a long time.   I had a wonderful time in the KSDS nursery learning the basics of life until the day I met my new Mom on May 28th.  She was so excited to meet me and brought everything pink she could find.  She also had a friend at the lake that came and got a new puppy for the first time - My sister Wheels.

I know my Mom was at KSDS in puppy training classes for a long time because the nursery staff was talking to us about meeting our new foster parents most of the day along with us going to the puppy salon to get all dolled up.  They wanted us to look our best before we met everyone.  My Mom was so excited that when they called out my name for her to come and get me she didn't remember who I was.  She had to ask her friend what my name was.  Silly Mom !

We left for home that day - it was a three hour drive.  My Mom was so worried I would get car sick - Avalon started her very first day getting car sick - but I did just GREAT !!!  Mom was so HAPPY !!  My dad came home just before we arrived and had Avalon out waiting for me.   I was excited to meet Avalon but Avalon wasn't as excited to meet me, but after she got to know me we have become best friends.  One of the first things I did was to leave a nice deposit as Mom would say.  They kept saying "Hurry Up?"  I tried to tell them "I am" but they just don't seem to understand puppy talk.  I think Avalon does though since she said to me they say that all the time to her also.

My parent's house is cool.  They set up a great kennel/den for me with all of my pink things plus a pretty pink water and food bowl.  It is kind of small so I hope when I grow more they will get a bigger one.

My den is located in the living room so I can see everyone when I am in there.  My Mom stayed with me for the first four nights so when I woke up at night I would not be scared.  She also put down a bunch of rugs so Avalon and I can play and have fun without slip sliding away on the wood floors.

My first adventure here was to visit my Grandma Maryann who lives in a Care Center.  It was a long drive since she lives in another town - Wahoo Nebraska.  Everyone there was so nice to me and wanted to pet me.  I had a wonderful time but had to watch out for the wheel chairs so they did not roll over my tail.   Mom was so excited that I did not get car sick.

The next week was my two legged sister Aunna's graduation from nursing school.  My other two legged sister Meghann was not able to be here so I have not met her yet.  Mom and Dad were gone most of the day for her graduation ceremony but the next day Mom had a Graduation/Mother's Day celebration here at our house.  I got to meet my other grandma and some aunts, uncles and cousins.  My cousins were a lot of fun and played with me most of the time they were here.

The following week my Mom took me to the Vet to visit and give them my records from KSDS.  In two weeks I have gained 5 pounds - I am a growing girl.  I heard my Mom talking to the Vet that we will be back for some shots the following week.  I told Mom I was excited to come back but I don't think she understood.  The Vet did - I think he understands puppy talk.  However, my next visit to the Vet was not what I thought it was going to be.

They tried to distract me with treats which did work some but I still felt the sharp needles from the shots.  He also put something in my nose that I really did not like along with listening to my heart.   I have had some meds put in my fur so bugs won't bite me plus I ate some treats so that other bugs won't get inside me.  With all of the meds I have been having issues with what has been going in at feeding time coming out icky.  I messed my den plus my Mom had to take me to her puppy salon in the bathroom and give me a bath.  The Vet gave my Mom some meds to help with my icky poo and it is working for now.  That was a long two days of "Hurry Ups" outside!

Mom and Dad are working with me to help me learn good behavior.  I am learning to sit, stay and wait.  I don't like to down and if I am not busy sniffing I will come when Mom calls.  I love to explore my new environment so sometimes I have select hearing when Mom calls especially when I am following a trail to sniff.    It is just so FUN to hang out with them. I  am so happy they picked me to be with them.

It is the weekend and my Mom and Dad are going for their weekend walk around the lake with Avalon.  Mom said when I get bigger they will take me.  Mom took me the first weekend I was home in a back pack but she said I was growing too fat to do that again.  Mom said when I get to go I have to walk the whole way so I hope I make it because Mom said she won't carry me.  Maybe I will do some runs around my kennel to build us my endurance.

I am a Lab and I have been told us Labs love to fetch - Mom and Dad said I am learning early but must wait till I am 21 to get to
drink what is in the blue can along with what is in Mom's glass.  That is only 3 years in puppy years but by then I think I will be away at puppy college

Last - Mom and I have decided to dedicate my new BLOG to Ruthie - My four legged sister who passed away in November 2015.  I was not born yet so I have only gotten to see pictures of her but Mom has told me lots of stories about her. She was Mom's therapy puppy and they traveled to many places visiting people who don't get to see puppies or are having problems along with talking to people about puppy raising/training. I think I have some BIG paws to fill.  I will tell you stories later about all of the puppies Mom has raised.  I think I am umber six.
